Magento / Adobe Commerce
Enterprise MSI Migration
Multi-source inventory rollout for a multi-vendor commerce operation on Adobe Commerce, replacing legacy inventory management with rule-based fulfillment.
Challenge
A growing retailer needed to move from legacy inventory management to Multi-Source Inventory (MSI) while supporting dropship vendors and multiple warehouses. Their existing setup could not represent stock accurately across locations, which led to manual order routing and a fragile fulfillment process that was hard to scale.
Approach
- Audited the existing catalog, inventory sources, and fulfillment workflows to map how stock and orders actually moved.
- Designed source allocation rules and priorities for vendors and warehouses, aligned to the team's operational expectations.
- Implemented MSI with a phased rollout and regression testing, validating split shipments, backorders, and vendor-delay scenarios before go-live.
Outcome
- Unified inventory visibility across all sources, replacing fragmented manual tracking.
- Reduced manual order routing as the system handled source selection automatically.
- A scalable foundation that positioned the business for further dropship expansion.
